A downloadable Mixed Reality Game for Android

Class Project for 5010: Immersive Media: XR History & Theory

My AR/MR work of art is an engaging rhythm game designed purely for fun! The objective is to hit square blocks that appear in front of or beside you, aligned with your line of sight, allowing for a full 360-degree experience of the immersive effects surrounding you. The visual elements consist of ten unique particle effects and three audio sources. As players hit the cubes that spawn, each particle effect activates sequentially, while missing a cube causes them to deactivate one by one. Additionally, a timer will remove particle effects every four seconds. As the game progresses, the cubes spawn more frequently and move faster, challenging players to maintain a steady rhythm. Missing a cube not only dims the music but also gradually lowers the volume of each track, giving players a sense of agency in shaping their experience. The goal is to create an immersive atmosphere where players feel they are building the rhythm themselves. My passion for rhythm games throughout my life is the source of my inspiration for this AR work. Growing up, I adored titles like Guitar Hero 3: The stories of Rock, Rock Band, and Rocksmith.  To this day, I enjoy games like Clone Hero, a fan-made tribute to the Guitar Hero and Rock Band series, featuring community-created mods and an extensive library of songs. I also really love VR rhythm games, with favorites like Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, and Drums Rock pushing the boundaries of gameplay and interactivity. Although this project isn't exactly where I would have liked it to finish, I am very happy with the results.
